Kim’s Story
My name is Kim. I am a 40 year old woman living in Cape Town, South Africa. I am a mother or 4, aged 17,15,13 and 5. I was diagnosed at the age of 39 in April of this year. My specialist feels that the progression may be slow and hopefully I will still be able to read and drive for at least another 10 years maybe more. He puts this down to the fact that the condition was diagnosed much later in my life and that the deterioration of my sight has been quite slow over the last 2 years.
As this is a recessive gene my children will not get this disease unless my husband is a carrier (which he is not). I have two siblings and my brother has definitely not got the disease and my sister has not had any problems as yet with her sight.
Please contact me if you feel the need to chat.
regards, Kim
