Anja’s Story – Received 5 August, 2007

I am 36 years old, and I have also recently been diagnosed with Stargardts disease. It is only 3 weeks ago.

I have never in my life heard of this disease. No-one in my family has it, or have heard of it. I went to bed one evening and the next day, I woke up with a black spot in my left eye. Only my left eye is defective, the right one is still okay. First I visited a specialist, but he was not sure what it was, so he sent me to the hospital. At the hospital I was diagnosed with Stargardts macular dystrophy. They could not tell me much about the disease, they told me to look for informations myself. I have found a lot of information on the internet but nothing from any danes, so I am searching for someone in Denmark who also has stargardts.

I am thinking a lot about it, how this disease will effect my life, I can still drive and read. But it is beginning to be difficult.

It is very helpfull to read about all you people who also live with this disease, and to find out how you manage your daily life.
